Interior and Exterior
The Ford Explorer's spacious cabin is remarkably styled with premium flair and a modern dashboard design. At the center of the dashboard, the floating, portrait-style infotainment system screen is accompanied by horizontal air vents. Some trims have suede or diamond-patterned leather upholstery, heated and massaging seats, wood trim and ambient lighting. The higher-level trims have power-folding rear seats and captain's chairs in the second row.
With the new Explorer's striking facade, it is a standout on the road in Petersburg and Rochester. The SUV's design language is established by long angles across the contoured sides and through the profile. The front of the Explorer is captivating with a hexagon-style, laced mesh grille. The LED-boosted headlights stream off from the grille horizontally. The linear foglamps are mounted in black, arrow-like ports. Some trims add adaptive headlights, a hands-free liftgate, exterior approach lighting, roof rails, rain-sensing wipers, front tow hooks, quad exhaust outlets, a front skid plate, heated side mirrors with integrated turning signals, keyless access, and 21-inch wheels.
Performance
The new Explorer is offered with three powertrains for Chatham drivers. The lower trim levels have a 300-horsepower, four-cylinder, 2.3-liter turbo engine. The higher trim levels have a 400-horsepower, V6, 3.0-liter turbo engine. A hybrid, V6, 3.3-liter engine that generates 318 combined horsepower is also available. A 10-speed auto transmission is standard with all powertrains. All trims except the Timberline have rear-wheel drive with the option to upgrade to all-wheel drive. The Explorer Timberline has standard all-wheel drive. This trim has an off-road suspension system, raised ground clearance, and a limited-slip rear differential.
Technology and Features
Ford's continued focus on innovation for the benefit of drivers and passengers is displayed in the incredible selection of technologies and features offered across the new Explorer's trim levels. The tech and features that may be available in some or all of the latest trims are FordPass Connect with a Wi-Fi connection, USB ports, a heated steering wheel, a digital instrument panel, up to a 12.3-inch infotainment system screen, a push-button ignition, an auto-dimming interior mirror, wireless device charging, a Bang & Olufsen sound system, a navigation system, and several others.
